Post-Op Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AFTER CATARACT SURGERY

  • Start using your eyedrops in the OPERATIVE EYE ONLY the day you get home from surgery as directed by Dr. Ringeman.

       MEDICATIONS typically used include:  

       – MOXIFLOXACIN (tan cap): 1 drop 4 times a day for one week only, then stop.

       – PROLENSA (light gray cap): use 1 drop once a day for 30 days total.

         – Please note your post op eyedrops may vary from what is listed above. 

  • Use ALL drops, every day as indicated above.  Space eye drops 3-5 minutes apart to avoid rinsing the first out with the next and so forth.

  • Limit any heavy lifting over 15 pounds, bending, or other activity that would cause you to strain during the first week.

  • Normal household and recreational activities such as watching TV, reading, or walking are allowed. Since your depth perception may be different, use caution when walking in dark or unfamiliar places.

  • Protect the eye from injury/pressure/strain during the first week. Sunglasses offer good protection.When sleeping or napping, always wear the the protective shield provided at the time of surgery.

  • Routine pain relievers such as Advil or Tylenol may be taken for discomfort as needed.

  • No swimming, hot tubbing, or eye make up for 2 weeks.

  • Preservative free tears can be used for irritation or foreign body sensation as often as needed.

  • You are scheduled for a follow up with Dr. Ringeman the day after your surgery.
