Dr. Carol Ziel

Dr. Ziel has lived in Winston Salem for 25 years. She moved to Winston Salem in 1999 after working in private practice in Northern Wisconsin. At that time, she joined the faculty at the Duke Eye Center in Winston Salem. For 22 years, she had a very busy practice as a glaucoma and cataract specialist. She retired in 2021, but more recently decided that she missed Ophthalmology and direct patient care

Dr. Ziel joined Forsyth Eye Health and Surgery in October 2023 and feels it is a good fit for her to continue practicing in the field she so enjoys. Dr. Ziel’s focus is now on medical Ophthalmology and glaucoma care.

Dr. Ziel received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Kentucky in 1987 and completed her Ophthalmology residency there in 1991. She further augmented her training by completing a fellowship in Glaucoma in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Ziel has spoken at many Ophthalmology meetings across the country. She was instrumental in showing how cataract surgery could be the best treatment for angle closure glaucoma.
